The new Card visual brings a modern and visually engaging way to highlight key metrics in your reports, now with support for hero images, new default styling, and consistent formatting experience.
Spotlight your metrics with a hero image
Support for hero images has been added, allowing you to add an attention-grabbing image to your card, helping your most important metrics stand out and connect with your audience. Whether you’re highlighting a product, showcasing a team, or featuring a brand logo, the new hero image feature empowers you to create visually rich reports going far beyond simple data points.
An image can be added to the card in three ways:
- Upload image from your local device
. - Pasting in an Image URL.
- Select from data to use an image from a data column.

New defaults (opt-in for existing reports)
The defaults for the Card visual have been updated to deliver a cleaner, modern layout with improved spacing and typography, making your visuals easier to read and more professional by default.

All new reports automatically have the new default styling. Existing reports can opt-in by going to the View ribbon, expanding the Theme section dropdown, then selecting Customize current theme. In the Customize theme dialog is a button to update to the new default theme which will give you the new styling of the new Card visual.
Additional layout and ordering options
The Card visual introduces a dynamic collage layout, letting you highlight one section while the other two share the remaining space. You can also customize the display order of the Callout area, Reference label, and hero Image. This flexibility lets you spotlight your most important insights and tailor the card’s appearance to best fit your data story and audience.

The Card visual uses the same controls and format pane structure as other modern visuals like the Button slicer. This makes it easy to adjust layouts and styles and quickly find settings.
The legacy card visual will continue to work on all existing reports. The Visualization pane will have the legacy card visual hidden. You can add it back by selecting the Build visual context menu and choosing Restore default visuals.
Improvements made
As part of our GA release, we’ve made several updates to enhance layout consistency, visual alignment, and overall user experience. Building on the changes highlighted in our Preparing of the new Card visual in General Availability blog post, these are additional enhancements we’ve delivered:
- Callout image alignment: Previously, the callout image aligned to the callout label but now the image aligns correctly within the callout area.

- Background image behavior: Before, the background image would repeat if they did not fill the container. We’ve updated the image fit and names to align with design principles to prevent images from repeating.

- Reference label padding: Outer padding in reference labels unintentionally affected the callout area, pushing elements out of place. We’ve removed the Outer padding control and added a Padding control to ensure there’s consistent spacing across sections.

- Autogrid enhancement: In certain layouts, an empty column would previously appear. With the addition of Autogrid, it intelligently arranges categories and cards without leaving empty columns for improved usability.

Try adding the new Card visual to your next report and experience the difference for yourself.
